Types of Dances
There are two main categories of dancing: Smooth and Rhythm Dancing.
Smooth Dances are Foxtrot, Waltz, and Tango. Rhythm Dances are Swing, Cha-cha, Mambo, Samba, Rumba, Meringue, Disco/Hustle. Also available is Polka and Line Dancing.
Modern Social Dances tend towards Swing, Cha-cha, Foxtrot, Rumba, and occasionally the Waltz and Mambo.
Foxtrot

A slow 4/4 count dance. Most often danced to American Big Band music.

Swing
|
A fast 4/4 count dance. Most often danced to Rock and Roll or fast American orchestral music. Effortless Dancing teaches East Coast Swing and Single Swing at this time.

Disco/Hustle
|
A fast 4/4 count dance, usually to rock or "electric" music.

Waltz
|
A slow dance done to 3/3 music.

Rumba
|
A slow 4/4 count dance done to Latin sounds.
|
Cha-cha
|
A fast 4/4 count dance to Latin sounds. Like Swing is to Foxtrot, Cha-cha as Rumba.

Mambo
|
Also a 4/4 count Latin dance, even faster than Cha-cha.

Merringue
|
an 8 count dance done to Latin March-type music.

Polka, Samba, Tango and Line Dancing

All their own unique styles.
